This panel will discuss why a renewed focus on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ESCR) is necessary alongside civil and political rights, especially in a country beset by social inequalities, environmental issues, and sociopolitical conflicts. Guests will share stories of struggle and empowerment from selected communities and organizations in Luzon and Mindanao to highlight the need for collective action and broad solidarity in protecting heritage, livelihood, and health amidst government neglect, militarization, corporate abuses, development aggression, and the general apathy. This session aims to invite the audience to reflect on their positionality and explore ways of individual and collective engagement in the pursuit of social and environmental justice in the Philippines. Organized by Department of Sociology and Anthropology (DSA).
